Over the last year, there’s been a long list of praise and criticism for Mayor Dellums. Some particularly polarizing topics are:

Violence: Dellums has been criticized for not doing enough about increasing violence in Oakland. On Sept. 15 he announced a program that will put 25 peace workers on the streets in the most violent areas.  

Work Ethic: Dellums has been accused of being a lazy mayor. The Novo Metro blog requested he post his daily calendar online to show what he does with time. Dellums has yet to do so.

 

Police Force: Dellums was also criticized for saying he doesn’t plan on increasing the number of Oakland police officers, despite the fact that Oakland’s force of nearly 740 officers is roughly half the size of cities of comparable size. See SFGate interview.
